Yesterday we had our first day at orientation. I was happy to finally meet Angel, the new director of the Center for Leadership Engagement. He is a very vivacious and charismatic person. He is also very passionate about the work of Alternative Spring Breaks and Bulls Service Breaks, which is great! I really look forward to working with him more. Hopefully my experiences in the past will be able to help him mold the program into something amazing for this year and future years.
My current check list:
-participant roster finalized
-payments made
-host service site contacted
-meetings scheduled
-educational component completed
Gotta love adding things to my to-do list!

One Last Time
Last year, as you all may know, I went on an alternative service break working with Habitat for Humanity building houses in the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We were working in an area directly effected by Hurricane Katrina and it was amazing to see the impact we had on the community.

This year I decided to sign up again. To be honest, I did it to see if I could get a public health trip. I made a deal with myself that if I didn't get a directly public health related trip, I wouldn't go. I know this sounds awful, but I need public health experience to move forward in the field. After making this deal with myself I did not feel right, so either way I probably would have ended up going. It seems to be my passion to serve others.
Lady luck smiled upon me this year. During spring break I will be working with Project Open Hand in Atlanta, Georgia.

This organization provides daily meals for individuals who suffer from AIDs. This is an amazing opportunity for me to work directly in the public health field! I am so excited. I can't wait to start working with this organization. Who knows, maybe it'll sprout to a permanent job. I wonder if they have any affiliates overseas!
I start my orientation on January 27th! Let the countdown begin!
